Case Study
Client
Karen Castle, Head of HR, Johnsons the Cleaners
Johnsons the Cleaners is the UK’s largest dry cleaner, with more than 500
branches employing 4,000 people.
Brief
Our brief was to create, write and present a bespoke series of four interactive
employment law training sessions to Heads of Department, Regional and Area
Managers. We were charged with increasing delegate knowledge of employment
legislation, with the purpose of improving business performance. The client also
wanted to raise awareness of the operational and financial issues that arise from
procedural non-compliance, and help remove the feeling of ‘exemption’ from the
legislation.
Project Delivery
Seminars & Solutions undertook the following to deliver the brief:
- Intelligence gathering from HR and associated departments
- Incorporating Johnsons’ policies, procedures and entitlements and
translating relevant employment legislation into the language of the
delegates, showing the vital need for compliance in daily operations
- Compiling and creating a training programme
- Creating supporting course collateral
- Post-event evaluation with HR Director, analysing and assessing
delegate feedback
Benefits
The benefits to Johnsons were:
- Reduction in the costs of wasted management time in workplace disputes
and litigation
- Increased knowledge of employment law, reducing outsourcing costs of
legal advice
- Release of HR expertise from costly procedural burden
- Increased HR literacy, engagement and co-operation from Department
Heads, Regional and Area Management Teams
- Heightened procedural awareness
- Increased proficiency and performance
- Measurable return on investment
“The content and delivery was excellent, informative and focused on the
relevant issues in the business. The sessions have enabled our line
managers to have a clearer understanding of employment law and they now
have the ability to apply that effectively in the workplace.”
